Drinking Fountain I
I've got another obsession - I never know where they come from - but this time it's drinking fountains. You know - those things you see all over london (and elsewhere) some large and ornate (i.e. this one in Hampsted) or some just a rough hewn piece of granite for the horses to drink out of (now used as recepticals for used special brew cans). Followers of DD will remember a while back when I was living in Stratford that I took a picture of a monument to Samuel Gurney - well as an amazing co-incidence it turns out that he was the founder of the Metropolitan Free Drinking Fountain Association (didn't those victorians have anything better to do i.e. watch big brother?) This fine example in Hampstead was designed by one J.H.Evins for a certain Miss Crump in memory of William Warburton Pearce - where are they all now eh? Maybe i'll try friends re-united .....
